I recently returned home from a vision quest & something became crystal clear. I do not want to buy into the capitalistic way of living anymore. It is extractive & harmful to all of us. I want to try something new, but in fact, it is old...
Moving forward at The Makaranda Method, we are getting back to the ancient teachings of reciprocity. Together, we collaborate on what you can offer for this work.
If we allow, money can stand for something better than it does right now. Money can be a bridge for connection; a beautiful way to have our needs met by other's gifts. It can stand for a more beautiful world where energy is exchanged in a healthy way. A world where there is always more than enough to go around. A world that asks questions about how giving feels in our bodies. A world where, when we share our gifts, we honor our lives.
You may be asking, how do I know what to give? Depending on the program you choose, I will offer you an amount that feels good for me and then I will invite you to sit in meditation and ask yourself several questions as well. The answer will come to you. When we start our work together, I will provide you with the questions. We will then negotiate what feels good for both of us.
It is time we create cultures of gratitude and embody reciprocity. Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of the beautiful book Braiding Sweetgrass, said:
“Cultures of gratitude must also be cultures of reciprocity. Each person, human or no, is bound to every other in a reciprocal relationship. Just as all beings have a duty to me, I have a duty to them. If an animal gives its life to feed me, I am in turn bound to support its life. If I receive a stream’s gift of pure water, then I am responsible for returning a gift in kind. An integral part of a human’s education is to know those duties and how to perform them.”
The practice of generosity develops loving-kindness and compassion, deepens awareness of our interconnectedness encourages non-attachment and is a natural form of reciprocity.
