Practical Magic: Ignite Your Power through Meditation + Ritual

Blog/Practical Magic: Ignite Your Power through Meditation + Ritual

MAGIC IS ALIVE, IT IS ENERGY.

LIKE ENERGY, MAGIC CANNOT BE CAPTURED,
IT MUST BE HELD IN AN OPEN PALM.
IT ARISES FROM AN EMPTY MIND.

MAGIC IS NOT AN INSTRUMENT,
IT ONLY PASSES THROUGH AS SERVICE TO THE WORLD

THE MIND ITSELF IS MAGIC,
RHYTHM OF THE UNIVERSE INSIDE.

If you would like to access the recording of the Practical Magic Webinar, you can listen now!

This blog posts provides a link to our recorded webinar and the ‘spark notes‘ of what we discussed about Practical Magic. We begin with what I call ‘The Magic Recipe’ for creating the life you desire through meditation + ritual. You can refer to this blog over and over as supplemental support to your practice!

The Magic Recipe

Step 1 - Relax the body.

Find a place to relax, sitting, standing, laying down. Take 3 deep breaths. On each exhale, release areas of tension in the body. Try a body scan to practice relaxing each area of your body. Use your breath to move down your body, starting with your head, and move all the way down to the toes. Take your time and be kind to yourself! There is no time limit. Go at a pace that feels good to you in this moment!

Step 2 - Quiet the mind.

When a thought arises (which is natural), notice it, without judgment, and redirect your attention back to the present moment by noticing your breath and/or what is happening around you. What does this mean?

  • feeling where your body meets the Earth
  • tuning into the sounds you can hear around you
  • noticing the way the sensations and emotions move through the body as you are still
  • what can you see with eyes open or closed?
  • noticing what your mouth tastes like
  • noticing what you can smell.

A thought might come. It’s ok! Practice go back to your senses and your breath over and over and over. This practice takes time and practice. Please be patient with yourself.

Step 3 - Open the heart.

Take it easy with this one! First, see if you can feel your beating heart. A hand on the heart can sometimes be helpful. Meet yourself with kindness and gentleness as you explore. Then, if it feels right to you, you can introduce Metta: a loving-kindness practice.

You can say phrases like; "May you be healthy. May you be happy. May you be free from suffering." For the Metta practice,

  • Bring to your mind a loved one and say these phrases and feel them as you send them out.
  • Then, bring to mind an acquaintance, and send them these phrases.
  • Third, bring to mind someone you are having a hard time with, send them these phrases.
  • Finish with sending these phrases of Metta to yourself.

Note : These are not rules of how to practice Metta, simply guidelines. Please say whatever phases of loving kindness most resonate with you!

Step 4 - Align your intention.

Ask yourself, what do I really want in this life? Make a list of 10 things and BE SPECIFIC!

Feel in your body NOW, that you are the person who already has this intention for your life. See through your eyes now, that this intention is already yours. What sights, smells, emotions do you feel in this visioning of yourself? The more familiar you become with your ideal vision, embodying how it feels to be in your intention NOW, the quicker it will become your reality.

In other words, imagine in your head you are looking through a window, the window is all fogged up, like the inside of a car when its cold. Think of your intention as the defrost setting. Set your intention over and over so the window gets clearer and clearer. The more clearly you can see the image through the window, the more clearly the image will come to pass in real life.

Now that you have ‘The Magic Recipe’, I invite you to listen to the guided meditation at minute 45 in the webinar recording.

Reflect on what you notice:

  • Where do you feel a sense of release, relaxation, or a neutral sensation?
  • Where do you feel resistance, pressure, pain, holding or gripping?
  • Can you relax a little bit more with each exhale?

Rituals to support your daily practice

  • Create an altar space in your home. Adorning the space with meaningful items, sacred objects, crystals, incense, candle, and any other objects that you hold dear.
  • Put a daily meditation reminder (or two!) on your phone. This will prompt you to take a break and meditate - even if for only 5-10 minutes!
  • Write three gratitudes every day. No matter how simple or small, write 3 gratitudes either every morning or every night before bed. Find a time that works best for you to take 5-10 minutes to jot them down on your phone or journal!
  • Join our Community! Since meditation started thousands of years ago in Southeast Asia, it has been done in community. Only did this idea of meditating ‘on our own’ become popular as we have become more individualistic in the West. We get to do this together and we would love to support you in our 8-week program - The Magic of Mediation. Join below or email us for details!
