As we enter this phase of Magic of Meditation, we remember to practice the first three steps: relax the body, quiet the mind, open the heart. This blog is about the fourth step: align your intention.

Week 5 of Magic of Meditation allowed us to dive deeper into our mind-body-soul connection by enriching our mindfulness meditation practice + aligning with what we most desire to bring forth into the world.

Go ahead and cozy up, light a candle or incense, and grab a journal for this next part of our practice together.

First, we ask: how would you define intention? Feel free to write down a few words, phrases, or sentences about what comes up for you.

​I define intention as feeling what it is we want in our lives as if it is happening NOW. The dictionary defines it as…

To intend means to have an action as one's purpose or objective.

For example, I intend to have an open heart. I intend to bring an abundance of trust to this process. I intend to explore myself with kindness. To intend is to decide that you are going to do something. Identifying and aligning to a purpose - a deep soul knowing.

Intention’s medicinal definition is…

The healing process of a wound. The unfolding, the process.

To expand upon the medicinal definition, we are reminded we do not have to put effort into the healing process all the time. The healing process is in alignment with our one constant in life - change and transformation. For example, the intention (the natural cycle and process) of the flower is to bloom. We are no different than that. The body does this naturally!

Our busy, chaotic, undisciplined minds are what get in the way of the process. This is where the first two steps, relax the body, quiet the mind become so very important. Sometimes, relaxing is not easily accessible in our current situation or environment, so we simply can just become aware of our body, our breath.

We quiet the mind with whatever is arising, closing down the “DJ in our head” that likes to tell us what is happening and why it is happening - all. the. time. We allow ourselves a moment of reprieve, back into presence - into the here and now. We are able to quiet the story or narrative that we have kept on loop for so long so we can open the heart and listen to the language of the body.

Now, we take it one step further and put out an intention for our life, of which there can be many. Your intention can evolve and change as you evolve and change - grow, bloom, and cycle again. We can have many intentions - like a daily intention we set in the morning, a new moon intention, setting a yearly intention, or a lifetime intention.

Grab your journal again - listen to the guided meditation above, and let the messages sink deep into the body, the inner threads of your being.

Next, with gentleness and a deep connection to the heart, write down your top 10 intentions - you don’t need to have any timelines, just deep-soul dreams that are calling you to bring them forth.

​Ok, hopefully, you made a list of the top 10 things you want in your life. Remember this can evolve and change. We can have thousands of desires that we can work with, that we can call in. It’s about the direction of our energy. We’re here to cast a spell - we cast spells with our thoughts, words, and actions - wherever we intentionally direct our energy. Although we can have many desires, we are only picking some of the top ones to work with right now.

This is how I feel, take it from my mind, and move it through my body as a felt experience - the Universe doesn’t interpret the difference. The body doesn’t know the difference between thinking/actually doing it. It exists in a feeling. It exists in the sensations of the body. This is the key to how we can align to our intentions.

The universe is listening and responding based on the vibrations in your thought, words, and intentions….Today, we are getting clear on our most potent intentions. And be careful what you wish for!

The story of our kitten, Mágico. 🐈

A few months ago, Jon and I settled into our first home in nearly 2 years. We had only been there for about 4 days before Jon needed to leave to go to go back to Denver to work on a project. I looked at Jon and said, “We are living in a new town in Mexico, and you are leaving for a long time. I want an animal, a little street cat who can hang out, love, and keep me company as I settle into this new space! I’ll try the new meditation trick I learned to get anything I want from, ‘Into the Magic Shop,’ by Dr. James Doty.”

So I followed the formula or the Magic Recipe as I like to call it.

1. relax the body.
2. quiet the mind.
3. open the heart
4. align your intention.

- At step 4, I set my intention by using my imagination. Feeling it deep within the body. I closed my eyes and I imagined myself petting a cat. I felt myself petting a soft cat, holding its body on my lap. I noticed how good it felt to pet a sweet little animal. I smiled to myself, letting in the good feeling of petting a cat. I imagined this cat with me for about 30 seconds.

I swear, 6 hours later, we woke up and Jon said, “Oh my god. El, you did it. Your kitten is here!”

Sitting on our front porch was this little babe. He was so little when he arrived, no more than ten weeks old! He was so little, we thought he was a girl. We decided to call him - Mágica or Mágico. He is the sweetest delight to have ever walked the planet. He’s feisty, sweet, playful and loving. Mágico is now an international kitten, who travels the world with us as our medicine cat!

I share this story with you because I’ve seen this magic happen in real life, in real-time. Màgico is literally named after this magical experience of bringing your intentions to life!

Finally, here’s a great way you can practice aligning to your deepest intentions, below:

Imagine in your head you are looking through a window, the window is all fogged up, like the inside of a car when it's cold. Think of your intention as the defrost setting. Set your intention over and over so the window gets clearer and clearer. The more clearly you can see the image through the window, the more clearly the image will come to pass in real life.
